BREATHS-MUSIC WORLDS: GÜNTER "BABY" SOMMER "SONGS FOR KOMMENO"

Breaths-Music Worlds: Günter Baby Sommer Songs for Kommeno

The musician from Dresden, Günter Baby Sommer, pays tribute to the Greek village Kommeno, which was massacred in 1943 by the German Wehrmacht soldiers. "Songs for Kommeno" is influenced by the music of Greece, coming to life through stringed musical instruments like giaili tambour, oud, bass, clarinet, as they harmoniously blend with Günter Baby Sommer's percussions.

When the German drummer participated in Kommeno Summer Festival in Epirus, he was informed of the crimes committed by Wehrmacht during the Second World War. On August 16, 1943, German troops killed 317 citizens of the village. The German jazz musician, who was born a few days later the same year, now dedicates this concert to the victims of this atrocity.
